This was clearly not a lapse in trust that our government was willing to accept. This security breach allows access to the camera's video feed, whilst the owner of the equipment is completely unaware. Why are they banned from US Government buildings and facilities?Ī hidden backdoor access was found in equipment provided by these manufacturers.

How do you know you are buying equipment that is approved and secure? Only buy equipment that states it is NDAA compliant.Īll the equipment in our ProVue & Cyber Secure Series is NDAA compliant. Security Sales & Integration News: 2018 Dauha buys Lorex for $29 Million According to the CEO of Lorex the law does not apply to them, however if you read the law its clear all subsidiaries and companies offering products from these suppliers are included in the ban. In 2018 Dahua purchased Lorex outright and owns 100% of the company. It is possible to purchase from these suppliers and in less than a year, it could be illegal to utilize this equipment in the USA.

While this FCC action is not yet ratified, it is likely to soon become law. The FCC is also considering including all existing equipment from these companies. The proposed measure bans equipment from these companies by denying FCC licenses to sell new products in the United States. In June 2021, the FCC unanimously voted to start procedures to ban the sale of these brands to the general public by denying new products FCC approval. In 2019, the US government banned the use of Dahua, Hikvision and Montavue security cameras in federal facilities. Lorex is a brand that is owned by Dahua and Dahua products that are branded under any other name are still banned. We see no distinction between this and if Lorex were to do the same. Our understanding of the law is that if Dahua buys products from other suppliers and then brands them as Dahua, then the equipment would still be banned. Since Lorex is a retail brand for Dahua, we believe that the law applies to them as well. While we appreciate the effort on his part, we do not believe this is an accurate interpretation of the NDAA law. We were contacted by the CEO of Lorex, who wanted to explain that if they buy equipment from other suppliers (not the company that owns them) and brands the equipment as Lorex, then the equipment would not fall under the recent NDAA law or the FCC ban. The House of Rep Vote to Ban Retail Giants Pull Lorex Off the Shelves While the NDAA 2019 law banned these companies from being used in government facilities, this action now makes it illegal for them to sell new products into any US market. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) made it official and voted unanimously to stop the sale of all future products from these companies by denying them new FCC licenses. They sold us a faulty product as brand new, their customer service is awful, and, as a concerned father, the risk of death/injury is very real.Dahua-Lorex & Hikvision Products Banned in USA by the FCC There are plenty of CCTV products out there. The customer service rep was rude and unhelpful, even as my wife described how our son might have died because their product failed to work properly.

So, they obviously sold us a returned, defective item as brand-new and charged us full price. They informed us that our product had been an "open box" item, and had been returned before. My wife was furious, and contacted Lorex. He might have suffocated, and the Lorex system notified us of nothing. But then one night, our son Gabriel sat up for the first time, leaned forward, and landed headfirst in a pile of pillows. We didn't think much of it, just said, "yeah, we need to return this POS," and put it on the to-do list. My wife would then run up to me and say, "Didn't you hear him crying?" I had the monitor right in front of me!

It was supposed to have a sensor, so that when noise or motion occurred within the field of view of a camera, it would turn on and notify us. We noticed problems with it from the start. Within one month, the cradle broke, and my wife & I had to return it. I bought my first Lorex product from Costco it was a little white handheld monitor with a cradle and two cameras. I don't usually post on forums, but Lorex almost caused the death of my five month old son, so I want other people out there to know that they should stay away from purchasing CCTV's from Lorex.
